Abstract

Catalytic ring opening reactions of α-epoxyketones by boron trifluoride supported on hydroxyapatite-encapsulated-γ-Fe2O3 [γ-Fe2O3@HAp-BF3−CH3OH2+] as a heterogeneous, reusable and highly efficient catalyst in methanol solution at room temperature resulted in the formation of α-hydroxyl-β-methoxyketones through Cβ-O cleavage in excellent yields. The catalyst can be easily separated by a magnet and reused for several cycles.
