Abstract

Boron which is required by plants in small amounts come under micronutrient have significant role in agricultural crops by enhancing the growth, reducing sterility and increasing the overall yield. The boron availability is affected by soil pH, soil organic matter content and soil texture. The boron deficiency is higher in drought conditions due to less mobility as mass flow is declined. Boron has positive impacts when applied to crops in recommended rates and higher levels of more than 2ppm has toxicity too. The present trend due to lack of organic sources led to decline off micronutrient status soil aids in boron deficiency in specific crops. The judicious application of boron supplement by inorganic sources at proper dose and method is in need of the hour to acquire the significance and rectify the toxicity, residual effects. Yield components, yield and quality has been found enhanced in crops like rice, wheat, sunflower, groundnut, etc by boron application from findings of eminent research scientists.
