Abstract

An American political scientist and specialist on Soviet and Russian leadership politics analyzes Boris Yel'tsin's leadership style during his years as president of the Russian Federation. Focus is on one aspect of this style-its patriarchalism- and the evolution of this feature during the 1990s. Sources include memoirs by Yel'tsin and his aides and interviews conducted by the author with several officials who once worked for the Russian President.
