Abstract
ABSTRACTWhen a therapist is bored in the clinical session this is always, unless pathological, a countertransference issue. Understanding the causes and meanings of this boredom thus adds to an understanding of the therapeutic process and relationship. It may have a variety of causal factors which need teasing out in the furtherance of the therapeutic process. Boredom may be connected with feelings of emptiness or drowsiness but is in itself a distinct phenomenon.
