Abstract

The article at hand deals with the influence of a milieu-based culture of knowledge for mastering the future of cities and complex organizations in border areas. In two case studies on urban and university development in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, and Słubice, Poland, the authors discover that “misfits” on the institutional level, and between different milieus as well, can be effectively handled by providing an institutionalized framework for contact and discourse on development that methodologically goes beyond traditional network relations.
