Abstract

In a previous issue of Museum (No. 141) we announced our intention to promote international communication in the fight against theft and illicit traffic of cultural property by publishing digests of listings compiled by Stolen Art Alert, a bulletin published ten times a year by the International Foundation for Art Research (IFAR); New York. The first such digest is provided below. We are indeed grateful to the editors of Stolen Art Alert, in particular Ms Lynn Stowell Pearson, Director, Art Theft Archive, for the material collated. The digest is chronological. Each entry includes a brief description of the object, the IFAR catalogue number and the date and place of theft. An asterisk before the catalogue number indicates that a photograph of the stolen work is available. Further information on the subject may be obtained from IFAR: 46 East 70th Street, New York, NY 10021. IFAR also has an office in Europe: c/o Rouvrex SA, 3 avenue Ruchonnet, CH 1003 Lausanne (Switzerland).
