Abstract

In recent years, the design of highly efficient electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction arouses extensive interest. Herein, a hierarchical electrode material comprising nickel foam (NF) and W, Ru co-doped ultrathin NiP2 nanosheets are fabricated by a facile hydrothermal method and followed by further phosphating treatment. The W, Ru co-doped NiP2 ultrathin nanosheets exhibits an ultralow overpotentials of 17.8 mV to achieve 10 mA·cm−2 in 1.0 M KOH, which is the best Ru-doped hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts so far. The enhanced electrocatalytic performance can be attributed to the unique ultrathin nanosheets structure, synergistic effect of the W and Ru elements, and the amorphous carbon layer of the W-Ru/NiP2. More importantly, this design provides a particularly efficient and metal-doped transition metal phosphide with advanced HER performance.
