Abstract

The history of the development of the current national bibliography of the United States from the end of the XIX century is considered in detail to this day. The most famous American magazines, catalogs and information databases that provide information on the state of the book market are analyzed, including directories of published books and periodicals, yearbooks of publishing catalogs, indexes of literature planned for issue, sale and sale, book market almanacs, etc.
 The stages of formation and activity of R. R. Bowker LLC are studied, which fully reflects the results of bibliographic monitoring of the national book market.
 The focus is on the aspects of the application of new equipment and information technologies that allow to create electronic information databases, provide information on the book market in machine-readable and electronic forms, more fully and efficiently provide this information to consumers.
