Abstract

Published by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, this book discusses a relatively new outpatient, ‘one-stop’ approach to gynaecological treatments; an approach originating in the USA. The aim of ambulatory gynaecology is to reduce costs in the treatment of women with common gynaecological complaints, while at the same time increasing satisfaction through the reduction of waiting times and inpatient hospital stays. Using established care pathways, national guidelines and good practice it is argued that setting up ambulatory gynaecological services would be reasonably simple and cost-effective. This patient-centred, cost-conscious approach to service delivery fits well with targets across all of the devolved government areas in the UK.
