Abstract

Eight years ago the first edition of this multiauthor volume on vascular disease diagnosis was conceived, to be published 3 years thereafter. At that time the concept of a non-invasive vascular laboratory was gaining acceptance on both sides of the Atlantic, and the first edition filled a very real gap in the literature, giving valuable practical information about the noninvasive diagnosis of vascular problems. The mainstays in the diagnostic armoury, then as now, were ultrasound and plethysmography and the bulk of the new edition similarly provides an excellent practical guide to their application to a wide range of arterial and venous diagnostic problems. Unlike the first edition, there has been a rearrangement to reflect better the clinical orientation of the book.
