Abstract
I like Matrix Theory, a la Bellman. When I saw Bernstein's new edition of Matrix Mathematics, I asked David Watkins if it might be the appropriate subject of a featured review. On the other hand, I asked Beresford Parlett to review Watkin's Matrix Eigenvalue Problem. He, in turn, suggested reviewing it together with the related book by Kressner, and that lively discussion of bulge chasing has now turned into this issue's featured review. Other reviews cover math in games and in sports, cryptography, linear systems, ODEs, applied analysis, the complexity of games, voting, boundary element methods, and analytical mechanics. We thank the very capable reviewers for advising us on these new reading opportunities.
