Abstract

Peter Temin of Massachusetts Institute of Technology reviews “The Age of Equality: The Twentieth Century in Economic Perspective” by Richard Pomfret. The EconLit abstract of the reviewed work begins: Explores how the modern economy has been shaped by economic and political events throughout the last century. Discusses the age of liberty; war and depression; the Soviet economic model; multilateralism and welfare state in the first world; decolonization and cold war; the conservative reaction in the West; the collapse of central planning; the end of the third world; and the move from the age of equality to the age of fraternity.
