Abstract

The first edition of this book has become something of a standard text for practitioners, and recommended reading on palliative care courses for healthcare professionals. This new and expanded edition is likely to be just as popular. To some extent, it is not difficult to see why. People working in palliative care face difficult ethical situations almost daily, and the authors have produced a text which is accessible and firmly rooted in issues faced in clinical practice. Included are such topics as the aims of palliative care, truth telling, confidentiality and resource allocation, which were included in the first edition. For this new edition the authors have added chapters on the relative-patient relationship, quality of life and a reply to some criticisms of the first edition.
