Abstract

In the tripartite construct of race, gender, and class, Tearing Down the Gates problematizes the solitary focus on only race or gender in the K-16 pipeline and provides ample evidence that it‘s time to stop conceptualizing diversity in higher education solely in terms of race. Issues of social class in higher education are often masked by race, and this book provides a useful starting point to understand that social inequality is more complex than many scholars on diversity have conceptualized it.
