Abstract

The third volume of the Australian Mission at Jebel Khalid on the northern Euphrates River is dedicated to the ceramics from the Housing Insula, attributed to two major phases of occupation divided by radical rebuilding. Phase A (only partially excavated) dates from the late third to the first half of the second century B.C.E.; phases B and B+ date ca. 150–70 B.C.E. A cursory glance reveals an extraordinary range of types of closed and open vessels in tableware and cookware, utilitarian pottery for food preparation, storage, and transport, as well as imported fine wares.
