Abstract

The biennial Roman archaeology conferences organized since 1995 by the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies have proved ideal occasions to take stock of recent archaeological work in a series of provinces of the Roman empire. The Journal of Roman Archaeology, which has helped sponsor these conferences, has published a number of useful volumes out of these sessions: The Archaeology of Early Roman Baetica (JRA Suppl. 29), edited by Keay, resulted from the inaugural conference; volumes on Roman Germany (Suppl. 32, J.D.
