Abstract

Kevin Chung. Hand and Upper Extremity Reconstruction, London: Saunders Ltd, 2008 ISBN-10: 0702029165 ISBN-13: 978-0702029165 At the outset of Hand and Upper Extremity Reconstruction , Dr. Chung states that the purpose of the book is to provide a practical guide to the treatment of common hand problems. In my view, the editors (Drs. Chung and Evans) and authors have succeeded in that mission. For any resident who is new to hand surgery, the book and CD will act as a wonderful starting point for learning about common problems and procedures for the treatment of everything from carpal tunnel syndrome to distal radius fractures. The text nicely covers all of the basics: anesthesia, fingernails, tendon repair and transfers, nerve repair and transfers, fracture and ligament injuries, amputation and replantation, arthrodesis and arthroplasty, Dupuytren’s contracture, congenital hand deformities, infections, brachial plexus, thumb reconstruction, burned hands, and distal radius and wrist procedures. The book has 22 chapters of text … Dr. Don Lalonde, Dalhousie University, Hilyard Place, Suite C204, 600 Main Street, Saint John, NB E2K 1J5, Canada E-mail: drdonlalonde{at}nb.aibn.com
