Philadelphia, PA: Elsevier/Saunders, 2007 ISBN: 978-1-416-02952-6 Aesthetic Surgery After Massive Weight Loss is a timely textbook comprised of 12 chapters reviewing common aesthetic surgical procedures following massive weight loss. The editors, Drs. Peter Rubin and Alan Matarasso, assembled a distinguished contributor list that includes many well-known plastic surgeons who are specifically experienced in treating patients who have undergone significant weight reduction. Dr. Ivo Pitanguy, a Brazilian plastic surgeon familiar to many of us, commented that the majority of postbariatric patients describe an unacceptable worsening of their body image following massive weight loss, which leads many of them to seek out aesthetic surgery. The editors cite this as the major inspiration for the textbook. The opening chapter, “Weight Loss Surgery: State of the Art,” is a review of the various bariatric surgical techniques historically and currently employed worldwide to treat massively overweight patients.
