Abstract
This chapter examines the production of books at Salisbury Cathedral during the late 11th and early 12th centuries. The manuscripts display a general similarity in their construction and physical appearance, indicating a common origin. This chapter analyses the works of different scribes including those who copied all or parts of two or more manuscripts and those who appeared in two or more manuscripts. The nature of the scribal activity and the physical appearance of the books produced in the two phases of manuscript production provide several insights into the conditions at Salisbury and the activities and interests of the canons.
