Abstract

SUMMARY The book procurement in the CDS library on approval basis during 2000-2001 was analysed with reference to various aspects like the involvement of the faculty, the subject distribution of books approved, the share of various publishers, the subject wise expenditure and the chronological distribution of the books. It has been found that the number of books procured in each subject was in line with the subject priorities of the institution. Economics received the highest share followed by environmental economics, sociology, gender studies, etc. The sharing of the funds by various subjects also followed this pattern. Books of foreign publishers were generally preferred to that of the Indian publishers. The participation of the faculty was limited. For better collection building it is felt that a wider participation of the faculty is necessary. Chronological analysis showed that most of the books belonged to the current year.
