Abstract

In the United States, trauma is the leading cause of death in children today. Managing pediatric trauma patients often causes high levels of anxiety, even in the most experienced of Emergency Physicians (EPs). One must recognize the unique physiologic and anatomical variations of children, as well as other special considerations in the pediatric patient. This book is an overview of the diagnosis and management of pediatric trauma. It is in no way a comprehensive review of pediatric trauma or its definitive surgical care, but a book focused on Emergency Department (ED) management.
