Abstract

Aims: Rett syndrome is caused by mutations in the MECP2 gene. In 2012, it was reported in NATURE that bone marrow transplantation (BMT) in MECP2 null mice drastically increases lifespan and ameliorates the pathological phenotype. As BMT is associated with a significant mortality, it is important to reproduce these results before clinical trials in humans can be performed.
