Abstract
SummarySix days after unilateral ureteral ligation, serum colony-stimulating factor (CSF) is four times as high as in nonoperative germfree mice. The elevation in serum CSF is associated with a significant increase in peripheral blood granulocytes, but not lymphocytes, monocytes, or eosinophils. This finding supports the view that CSF not only is capable of stimulating proliferation of granulocytes and mononuclear cells in vitro, but also promotes granulopoiesis in vivo, and can be regarded as a leukopoietin.
