Abstract
AbstractFemur density, femur breaking force and muscle weight on the hind limbs of normal and bipedal rats have been measured. The bipeds had more muscle on the hindlimbs than controls. Increasing muscle mass was associated with increasing femur density and breaking force. It is concluded that weight bearing influences bone density and breaking force through muscle mass.
