Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the flexural behavior of RC (Reinforced Concrete) beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers) plates and suggest the prediction method for the strength of RC flexure member strengthened with prestressed CFRP plate by bond-slip parameter determination procedure for retrofit design. The uniaxial tensile test of CFRP plate specimen and the pull-test of CFRP plate bonded to concrete are carried out to investigate the strengthening effect of CFRP plate on RC members in detail. The behavior model of CFRP plate and the bond-slip model to be implemented in finite element analysis are proposed based on a parametric study and test results. The proposed method of flexural strength prediction for RC beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP plates are verified through comparing and analyzing with experimental results of this study. Through verifications, it is determined that the proposed strength prediction method can effectively be applied in flexural retrofit design of RC beams using prestressed CFRP plates.
