Abstract

To improve the bond stress between the concrete and bamboo bar, bamboo sticks were inserted into bamboo bars, which were then coated with rubber. To investigate the bond properties of the developed bamboo bars, many beam-type specimens were cast, and bond tests were carried out. Based on the test results, the following conclusions were drawn. 1) The bond strength increases depending on the concrete strength. 2) The strength increases with increasing diameter up to approximately 18 mm. 3) As the number of sticks increases, the bond strength increases; however, the upper limit is approximately 0.2–0.4 (pitch 25–50 mm), and more sticks will not further increase the bond strength 4). A rubber coating has a considerable effect on improving the bond strength. Although resin does not contribute to improving the bond strength, it was confirmed that it is effective at preventing a decrease in bond stress. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the newly proposed bamboo reinforcement with bamboo sticks is effective at maintaining a high bond strength when including a rubber surface coating and epoxy resin filling.
