Abstract

Abstract A description is provided for Boletus spectabilissimus , which as a likely mycorrhizal species, this fungus and the ecosystem services it provides are important in sustaining miombo and rain forest woodland through enhanced uptake of minerals from nutrient-poor soils and by providing protection from desiccation. Some information on its associated organisms and substrata, habitats, dispersal and transmission, and conservation status is given, along with details of its geographical distribution (Africa (Tanzania and Zimbabwe)). In Tanzania, basidiomata of this species are collected from the wild and consumed in local markets. No reports of negative economic impacts have been found.
