Abstract
1. 1. The hypothesis that the activities of hepatic regulatory enzymes might be related to body wt (W) in the same manner as metabolic rate is tested in the American plaice. 2. 2. Lactate dehydrogenase activity is low and unrelated to W, possibly due to discontinuity of peripheral lactate supply. 3. 3. All measures of hepatic pyruvate kinase (PyK) and glucose-6-phosphatase activities are significantly correlated with W, but only total PyK and total PyK per unit W are related to W 0·8 and W −0·2 as hypothesized. 4. 4. These findings may be related to seasonal variations in the importance of these enzymes in benthic fish.
