Abstract

This study explored the association between tanning behaviors and individuals’ intentions toexhibit unhealthy weight management behaviors and undergo plastic surgery. 353 female college studentswith an average age of 20.5 years participated in this study. Weight management behaviors (i.e., diet pilluse, diuretics use, and weight lifting) and plastic surgery (i.e., Botox and nose reshaping) were predictedby indoor tanning and the use of sunless tanning products. Health educators and practitioners need todevelop interventions and prevention programs about tanning, with an emphasis on healthy body images.
