Abstract
This descriptive study presents an approach to body image development in burned children. Disorders may occur at any level of body image experience including Body Schemata, Body Self, Body Fantasy or Body Concept. The associated defense patterns and symptoms are described with three case examples and treatment recommendations. The importance of parental attitudes toward the child's physical defects and emotional reactions is emphasized.
