Abstract

Introduction: The use of donor human milk for preterm infants is increasing; however, its effects on body composition (BC) are unknown. Extrauterine growth restriction is a problem, and it is difficult to study BC in critically ill preterm infants. Purpose: The purpose of this study is twofold: to compare the BC of very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants predominantly feeding maternal expressed breast milk (MEBM) vs. donor human expressed breast milk (DEBM) and to assess the utility of serial bedside ultrasound to predict VLBW infant BC.
