Abstract

A new genus and species of Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripidae, Bocathrips okajimai, is described from dead branches in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. This thrips is unusual in having a remarkably long-mouth cone but very short maxillary stylets. The species presumably feeds on fungal hyphae growing on dead branches.
