Abstract
PurposeThis study aims to explore the ramifications of a lack of human resources (HR) representation in corporate boardrooms.Design/methodology/approachThe author draws upon her personal and professional experience as a director of human resources and as a board member for a corporation.FindingsThere is a fundamental misunderstanding of the strategic value that HR brings to the table. To thrive in the modern business environment, organisations must acknowledge this strategic value and actively involve HR professionals in high-level decision-making processes.Originality/valueThis study makes a strong and compelling case for HR’s involvement in high-level decision-making in the boardroom.
