Abstract

American Chemical Society Board of Directors and Council dealt with lengthy agendas at their recent meetings in Washington, D.C. ACS Board agreed to fund more than $9 million in new programs and expansions of existing society programs, and the ACS Council was cautious about changing the society's constitution and bylaws as had been proposed in several petitions. Seizing upon the opportunity presented by strong finances and identification of an excellent partner, the ACS Board agreed to create an alliance with the Green Chemistry Institute. The Green Chemistry Institute is an ideal institute because its activities relate strongly to core ACS activities and the ACS strategic plan and would not add a financial burden to the society, said ACS President Daryle H.
