Abstract

In this work, electrochemical test was applied on API 5L X70 steel in NaCl 3% wt solution to observe the effect on the corrosion process of the material with the addition of BMPTI (C17H18IN3O). The steel parts were exposed to open circuit potential (OCP) test, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization curves (CP) with different concentrations of inhibitor (5, 20 and 50 ppm); from these test the action of the inhibitor, its efficiency, the effect on the corrosion rate and a thermodynamic analysis to determine the mechanism of action of the inhibitor.
