Doctors have urged the BMA to hold further “urgent” negotiations with the government over changes to the NHS pension scheme. Representatives at the association’s annual meeting in Edinburgh agreed this week that changes to the NHS pension scheme passed by parliament in April would have significant detrimental effects on doctors’ morale, recruitment, and retention. Last year the government proposed changing the NHS pension scheme by replacing the current final salary pension arrangements with a career average scheme and by increasing the normal pension age in line with the state pension age.1 …
