Abstract

The BMA has supported the GMC’s plans to reform the “equivalence” routes to GP and specialist registration to simplify the system while ensuring that it is sufficiently robust to guarantee that doctors who follow this route are regarded as equal to those with the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). Most graduates of UK medical schools follow the standard training path from the foundation programme to award of the CCT, after which they are eligible to join the medical register and apply for consultant and GP principal posts.
