Abstract

A study is made of the sampling characteristics of a diskshaped sampler facing both a laminar and turbulent wind by a numerical method. The Navier-Stokes equation is used for the laminar flow and the k-ε turbulent model is used to predict the turbulent mean fluid motion. The equations of motion of the particle are used to obtain the particle trajectories which are then used to determine the aspiration efficiency. Some comparisons of the numerical results with experimental data are made.
