Abstract

In the recently released Bluetooth protocol, the tag positioning function is introduced, which obviously enhances the accuracy and performance of indoor positioning. By combining the energy-efficient backscatter technology with the Bluetooth systems, it has the advantages of small size, low power consumption and low cost, which is quite suitable for Internet of Things scenarios. In this paper, we investigate the Bluetooth positioning relied on the backscatter technology. We first make the backscatter tag compatible with Bluetooth protocol. Then we use Angle of Arrival (AoA) method to locate in Bluetooth receiver through advertising channel. Finally, the influence of external carrier source on received signals is analyzed. Our simulation results show that the performance of Bluetooth AoA positioning using the backscatter technology can achieve the comparable performance in comparison with the Bluetooth positioning without backscatter technology. In addition, the external carrier source has less influence on positioning. Therefore, the possibility of Bluetooth AoA positioning based on backscatter is confirmed.
