Abstract

replicate to transmissible levels in all ruminants, major clinical disease (bluetongue BT) is usually only manifested in certain fine-wool and mutton breeds of sheep and some deer species.While clinical signs have sometimes been recorded in cattle (see accompanying piece), the identification of BTV circulation has almost always relied upon recognition of clinical signs in sheep (in areas where serological surveillance is not carried out).
