Abstract

Cholesterol embolism is a rare complication of percutaneous vascular procedures. It usually is diagnosed from the typical cutaneous manifestations and delayed development of renal failure. Here we report a patient who developed incessant vomiting following a vascular procedure who later developed the typical manifestations of cholesterol embolism. Even though gastrointestinal manifestations may be seen up to 20% of patients, this is the first case report in which gastrointestinal symptoms are seen as the initial presentation of cholesterol embolism.
