Abstract

Polycrystalline blue-red luminescent BaAlxOy:Eu2+,Dy3+ phosphor powders were prepared by solution-combustion method at 500°C for 5–6min. Effect of boric acid (H3BO3) on structure, morphology and luminescence properties of blue-red phosphors BaAlxOy:Eu2+,Dy3+ was investigated. XRD pattern confirms that the crystal structure of synthesized sample changes from hexagonal to tetragonal phase and the crystallites size was found to be 39–53nm range with boric acid concentration. The emission spectra showed that the phosphors prepared without boric acid has a main peak at 505nm, while those with boric acid have a triple main peak at 480, 580 and 615nm, correspond to the 5d→4f transitions of Eu2+ ions. The results indicated that the main peak in the emission and excitation spectrum of phosphor nanoparticles with boric acid shifted to the short wavelength compare with the phosphor without boric acid. The red-emission intensity at 615nm and afterglow properties are enhanced by H3BO3 at 2mol%, then decreased at higher concentrations attributable to concentration-quenching effect.
