Blue Note

Abstract

Blue Note was inspired by a love of choral music and the desire to invite the audience into an intimate experience of a vocal ensemble at work. To create this piece, we explored choral repertoire with an ensemble of singers, actors and composers, searching for musical selections that would reveal the inner workings of both an ensemble and the music it performs. As we developed Blue Note, it became clear that much of what is most exciting about choral music is the way individual voices combine to create a unified piece of music. We determined that the best way to bring an audience inside that process was to create a performance piece set inside the rehearsal of a vocal ensemble.
