Abstract

We demonstrate a visible light frequency left-handed metamaterial (LHM) composed of disorder dendritic cells and a novel bottom-up approach to fabricate the LHM using double template assisted electrochemical deposition method. When the diameters of the cells and the width of the second dendrite is about 500–700 nm and 30–120 nm, the as-prepared silver dendritic structural array appears a passband at wavelength of 470, 510 and 610 nm, respectively. The whole left-handed resonance behavior will not be affected greatly for cell variations below ±7 %. The LHM may realize the slab focusing effect at blue, green and red light wavelength, the focused point image with intensity 10 % higher than light source. It would be significant to accelerate the development of visible frequency LHMs.
