Abstract

Over the past decade, transgender activist Manisha Dhakal has witnessed significant change in Nepal. In 2007, she shared her story of being discriminated against for being a transgender woman during a Supreme Court hearing which led the court to rule that the new democratic government—following the abolition of the monarchy—must create laws to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights, and change existing laws that fuel discrimination. Reaching Nepal's mobile population at risk of HIVMigrant workers are one of the largest risk groups in Nepal's HIV epidemic.
