Abstract

Purpose of the study: Time-related asphyxia is the leading cause of death in completely buried avalanche victims. Time needed to extricate and to bring a buried victim into a position that allows basic life support (BLS) is unknown. The aim of the present study was to investigate the duration of extrication and the possibility to perform BLS in relation to the victim's body position under snow.
