Abstract

Does bombing those involved in terrorist activities accomplish its goals of reducing the number of terrorists, or may it instead cause a growth in terrorist numbers? To answer this question, we first seek a behavioral approach to the causes of terrorism. Next, without the ability to conduct field research, we use an agent-based modelling technique to predict ethnocentric behaviors in response to bombing. We conclude that asymmetrical response, such as the War on Terror and the military actions since, against terrorist organizations increases not only the recruitment of potential terrorists, but the potential number of violent terrorist incidents as well.
