Abstract

The HDR Facility represents a full scale test rig for the simulation of nuclear power plant accidents. The experimental and analytical investigations are basically aimed at the identification of the main phenomena and influences occurring during severe accidents and at the verification of calculation models and codes to describe those accidental effects. During Phase I of the program (1975–1983) blowdown investigations covering design basis accidents aspects formed the focal point of the research activities. The investigated components were full scale isolation valves, pressure vessel internals (especially core barrel) and the containment vessel and internal structures.
