Abstract

1. 1. Plasma albumin and globulin turnover, their sedimentation coefficients ( S 20) and total plasma protein were measured in dehydrated spiny mice ( Acomys cahirinus) and laboratory rats. 2. 2. Due to dehydration the incorporation of 14C-1-leucine into plasma proteins increased. The half-lives of the labelled fractions decreased by the same proportion and no change was found in S 20. Total plasma protein concentration increased. This is true for both species. 3. 3. The role of changes in plasma protein turnover vs changes in blood capillary permeability in relation to plasma protein and blood volume regulation in dehydrated rodents is discussed.
