Abstract

1. 1. Blood volume (Cr51) were determined in 17 Hyla septentrionalis and 15 Rana catesbeiana. 2. 2. Total blood volume was 7.5 ± 0.3 ml/100 g body weight (BW) for Hyla and 3.35 ± 0.26 for Catesbeiana. 3. 3. Plasma volume (ml/100 g BW): 5.8 ± 0.3 for Hyla and 2.00 ± 0.24 for Catesbeiana. 4. 4. Hemoglobin (g %) was 6.2 ± 0.6 for Hyla and 9.5 ± 0.2 for Catesbeiana. 5. 5. Hematocrit (%): Hyla, 22.4 ± 2.0. Catesbeiana, 40.4 ± 1.2. 6. 6. Large plasma volume found in Hyla septentrionalis could be a “primitive” characteristic with respect to hematology.
